WET 1145 - SMAW Theory and Lab 3 Credits
Prerequisite(s): WET1010 This is a lecture/lab course that provides instruction in the safe application of Shielded Metal Arc Welding. Topics include safety, selection and preparation of welding joints, carbon and low alloy steel electrodes, machine setup, and welding techniques. Blueprint reading and symbols will be covered and is a part of the lecture portion of this class. Welding Lab projects will provide students with the necessary skills necessary to meet AWS D1.1 acceptance criteria for SMAW fillet weld and groove welds in the flat, horizontal, vertical and overhead positions on mild carbon steel.
