Program of Study
The Power and Controls program prepares students for maintenance and electrical technician positions. Students receive hands-on training on programmable controllers (PLC), AC/DC motors and generators, transformers, test equipment, basic hydraulic systems, and industrial wiring practices according to the National Electrical Code.
The basic fundamentals are stressed in this curriculum so that graduates can adapt to the continuous changes in this field.
The faculty has identified the following Learning Outcomes for all graduates:
- Employ diagrams, schematics, PLC program documentation, drawings, and technical literature in the design, installation, operation, and diagnosis of machines, processes, systems, electrical, electromechanical, assemblies and wiring systems.
- Develop hardwired relay and PLC logic, interfaces and basic networks in current automation and control applications.
- Integrate automation components, assemblies, and systems between hard-wired and virtual platforms.
- Program/Configure various electrical drives, drivers, controllers and components.
- Troubleshoot electrical, electro-mechanical and programmable/configurable, assemblies, systems, networks, and processes.
