NUR 1131 - Nursing Transitions 3 Credit
Prerequisite(s): BIO1230 & BIO1235 Co-requisite(s): NUR1134 & NUR1135 This is the transition course for the Licensed Practical Nurses entering the Associate Degree Nursing Program. The primary focus of this course is to assist in the transition from licensed practical nurse to registered nurse. Students will review principle and techniques of assessment, the nursing process and therapeutic communication. The course will describe the Self Care Deficit Theory of Nursing, with particular attention to application of SCDTN utilizing critical thinking skills. Ethics, professionalism and nursing legislation will be incorporated. The focus of laboratory studies will be reviewed and practice of professional-technical skills. The course includes lecture and campus based practice labs. Upon successful completion of required course work and achievement of a grade of “C” for the course, the students will be eligible for advanced placement in the Associate Degree Nursing Program.
